Responsibilities in the family

There is more to being married and being part of a family than being faithful. In the family proclamation it warns against not fulling family responsibilities. It is obvious why being faithful to ones spouse is important in God’s plan, for our happiness, and for our marriages. However it may not be as obvious that there is more to being a family. A family is important because it is the first place a child learns. A child learns to walk and talk, and eat at home. siblings tend to teach their younger siblings by example and be words. sometimes an older sibling will tell a younger one not to do something because its dangerous and they could get in trouble. other times younger siblings just observe and watch, see, and learn what older siblings do. what got them in trouble and what they find cool about older sibling that they want to as well. not only do children need to strive to be kind to one another they also need to learn to respect their parents, and see their parents are doing they’re best to raise them. in the proclamation it say the disintegration of the family will lead to great calamities. it is very important to have and invite and sometimes enforce family time, but the reasonability is not all on the parents. children to should listen and cooperate with parents. If the family unit disintegrates then the parents have no one to help them when they need help, and the children won’t have a sense of belonging and purpose. this can lead to a cold world. it can harden the hearts of many people and our father in heaven wants to teach us love and compassion and the best place to learn that is in the family.

Reviewing my progress

When I was first given my assignment to read, write, and blog about the topic of mental health and chronic illness, I felt that this would be a topic I could do well on for this project. I had learn a lot about this topic before being given it for my eternal family class. I have talked to people who have spouses who have mental illness. I have talked to those who council people including those with mental illness. My favorite is I have spent many hours talking with those who struggle with mental illness. They explain what they feel and what helps. They tend to be very endearing towards others. My feeling on this topic haven’t changed much. I have gained the opportunity to see feelings on the subject with my class mates in my group. I feel that the site we are creating for our project could be extremely important to individuals who come across it looking for answers or a last hope. We as a group are very loving and open. we invite everyone to contact us of they have questions. The best resources for anyone who is facing the problems is the gospel. It doesn’t always fix the problem but it provides strength and can provide the answers to why. It always provides the offer of comfort, but that offer is based on our faith. Christ is the Great physician and like any physician if you don’t believe in him it won’t bring comfort. I continue to invite everyone to come to know the Savior in a personal way.

Rolls of Parents

The example set by A parent’s love for the Spouse will have a huge impact on their children! Every son watches how a father treats their mother. A son will make life choices and when they get married will either reciprocate that love to their spouse or decided they don’t want to become like their father. daughters will see the treatment of their mothers by their fathers and expect that treat wither good or bad they will feel that this is what marriage is. Daughters will also see what their mothers love towards their father and feel that is how they should treat their husband. A son’s mother will teach him tenderness and compassion. it is the root of a man soft side. some of the teaching is through the observation of a mothers love for his father. this is why a couples love is so important for children to see and understand.

another important part of Parenting is unity of rearing children. A family that is taught and lives the gospel is the responsibility of the parents. Unity in teaching and standards is important for children to understand what they need to do and what is expected of them. For children to best learn the gospel is to have parents live by example how they should act and live. mothers and father are in constant need to settle sibling dispute. constantly reminding them to share, be kind, and learning to forgive and compromise is a big part of raising kids. A child’s need are the parents responsibility to provide for both their physical needs and spiritual needs.

If a parent teaches their children the correct things they need to do and learn and live, they have done the basics of parenting. the effort and their willing to enforce teaching and rules will determine how well they did to teach their kids. If parents do all they can and their child goes way word or against their teachings it is not on the parents head because everyone has agency. this doesn’t mean parenting should be taken light heart.

The First Commandment

when God created man or in other words created Adam and Eve, God gave them a commandment to multiply and replenish the earth. This was a commandment to reproduce. This has been part of the plan from the beginning for all of God’s children. We have been endowed with the power of procreation. to have the ability to have children of our own and continue the plan generation to generation.

When the Family Proclamation was read to the world, it reemphasized the importance of multiplying and replenishing the earth. This was to remind everyone that it is part of the plan for them to have children and families. that they are to strive for a future with kids. there are no exceptions to this it is part of our eternal plan to have family either in this life or the life after but we must always strive to be ready for one.

In the Proclamation it states that the powers of procreation are divinely appointed. this means that it’s powers are to be used by those chosen to use it. Who is chosen? those who are lawfully married. procreation outside of the family is a misuse of the power give to all of us. there are blessing that may come from the misuse but the best blessing for you and your children are found inside the bonds of marriage between man and wife. it is an example set by our heavenly parents. these powers are sacred and entrusted to us because God knows we have the powers to tell ourselves no until the time is appropriate. we have been given the agency to choose our actions but also given commandments for the bodies we have been given. these commandments are their to keep us and our loved ones safe from the adversary.

In summary we are commanded to have children but in the appropriate time and season between husband and wife. The gift of our bodies and the powers that come with it are under our agency but the responsibilities also fall upon our shoulders. may we be wise as we make our choices in life to choose the safety of ourselves and others.

where we were before this life and the plan.

Have you ever thought ” did i really start life here on earth or did i live before this life?”. If you have wondered this question I have the answer for you. i will give you a brief explanation for you. In the proclamation to the family is is put simply but there is tons of scripture to help define it more in depth.

In the family proclaim we are told that we are sons and daughters of God. We lived in heaven with Him before we came to earth. He raised us as a family and knew us individually. Yet while we were there we were only spirits. we hadn’t yet gain a body. Our Heavenly Father had a body and He presented a plan to us that we could come down to earth and gain a body and learn to obey all God’s commandments. part of this plan we were giving the atonement of Jesus christ to help us fix our mistakes.

The adversary ( satan ) has tried his best to hid this from us. He know that knowing the we are God’s children and that our Heavenly Father knows us personally.  Satan knows this is something we can draw strength from and hope that will give us power to resist him.

Having a body is part of the Plan of Happiness because think of all the joys that come with it that we could never have with out a physical body. I love the feeling of being in the sunshine and sledding in the winters. the smell of freshly cut grass. the ability to hug the ones i love brings such joy and peace. this is just a small part of all the blessing that come from having a physical body. Our Father wanted to give us this joy and happiness.

Satan was not able to gain a body because he rejected this plan. For this reason he despises us and wants to make us miserable. He tries all he can to bring us down and ruin the plan.

I want to tell you all not to give up have hope! this week i challenge you to find something new you enjoy because you have a physical body and thank you Heavenly father for that.

My Semester

I am currently going to Brigham Young University – Idaho and I am a sophomore. One of the classes I am taking is a religion class and that is the reason i started this blog. We were asked to talk about what is coming up in the course and some things about my semester.

My religion class is fairly simple routine wise. we have a new set of talk and scriptures to about every two days. which gives me a talk a day. and then a blog post about every two days. On paper it seems simple but with distractions of my life its hard to remember about my blog post are coming up. i remember talk but forget to do my blog post almost every week.

the rest of my semester is going okay. i am taking a lot of physiology classes because that is my major. i teach a cycling class for one of them and my other classes are just lecture and hours of studying. they don’t assign homework they just give you material to learn and memorize for the test and come to lecture prepared to ask question.

i am struggling to find time to study the Anatomy of the body for my kinesiology class. My wife has got a new job so i will be spending more time at the school so i don’t have to be home alone. also since i struggle remembering to write on the blog i think im going to set a biweekly reminder so i remember to do it at least the day of. For my cycling class i am in need of things to add to my routine so im not doing the same thing ever week. i am going to read some biking articles and apply them to my stationary bike class.

What it means to be created in the image of God.

We as human beings are all God’s children and He has created us in his image! Having the knowledge that we are like Him can give us encouragement that we can become like He is and be as He. Having a goal in mind of what and who we want to become helps set us on a course of becoming. The goal to be like our Heavenly Parents is something we should happily strive for. They have eternal joy and have given us a life and a chance to obtain it.

Having the knowledge of our spiritual heritage or knowing we are God children gives us power over the adversary. He doesn’t want us to have this knowledge because it helps us connect and grow closer to our Heavenly Father and inspire us to be more then what we are now.

We have a divine nature being sons and daughters of God. What that means is that we through obedience to his commandments and repentance for our short comings we can obtain all that God has, or in better word we can become like God. With this nature we have a tendency to want to be and do good some call this the light of Christ.

The family proclamation to the world says:“ALL HUMAN BEINGS—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.”

We lived with God before this earth and we will live again after we leave here. We will be the same. Our genders will always be the same God will always see you as his daughter and will always see you as his son. Nothing will change this in His eyes. He will always love us but there is no mistakes in our gender. God has perfectly created us.

If you have questions about this or anything else related to God I would love to talk with you.  I also invite you to pray about anything you have question on and encourage you to try and build a relationship with your Heavenly Father.

The Atonement’s Power to Heal mental Illness

In my religion class I was assigned to study and talk about how the Gospel of Jesus Christ can help with chronic and mental illness. This is a topic I have studied and have loved to learn about. With mental illness one may feel that they are unworthy for God’s love or if God does care about them as if they are not important enough. THIS HOW EVER IS NEVER THE CASE! Our Heavenly Father is eager for us to speak to Him, He desires for us to ask for His help. We need to ask because God respects our agency and won’t take it away from us. No matter what we have done God will never take away the gift of prayer. We are what matters most to God! He will always love us because we are his children.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint has put out many powerful videos online at lds.org/mentalhealth. The first video is Elder Holland an Apostle has he tell a bit about his spout with mental illness and testifies of Christ love to help give us strength through our trails. The other videos are personal accounts of individuals from all different background struggling with different forms of mental health and how the Atonement of Christ and his love has not just helped them endure but to find light and beauty in life and most importantly in themselves!

Many of my family and friends and I have and are struggling with mental illness. As for myself the study of the Gospel and trying to understand Christ’s perfect love has helped me through many trails.

suicidepreventionlifeline.org is a website that gives you a number to call if you are struggling with suicide. On this website you can also online chat with someone. Other additional information on this website talks about how you can help someone who is struggling weather you know them or how to help your community and it also tells you what happens if you did call or talk to someone when you are in need.

http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/find-help is a good website to help someone find health care provider. This is important because sometimes we need medical help and not just gritted teeth. Medical help is available and has helped out many people.

In Mathew 13:44 it says

¶ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.”

This scripture can bring you comfort if you think of the scripture in this way. The man who “selleth all that he hath” is Christ and the treasure in the field is you. You as an individual is worth that much to the Savior that there is nothing He wouldn’t give for you! He buys all of you not just the good or part He buys the whole field you are in! He loves you and wants you to be in Heaven with Him, Because Heaven wouldn’t be Heaven without you. You are part of God’s family and a family isn’t Whole if someone is missing. I challenge you to reach out this week and build up one of our family members and let them know we are thankful to have them in our life. I will also take on this challenge.

A Modern day proclamation from God about the family.

The  message from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” Starts of with;

“WE, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.”

This is the first paragraph of the “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” .

The reason it starts of with announcing the First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles is because they are declaring there authority given from God to speak as his mouth piece just like in the bible. Those who read this Proclamation can know that this is God intended purpose of the family.

As you read the first  paragraph you will see them use the term “SOLEMNLY” proclaim. They desire for the whole earth to hear this message and want to encourage marriage. They know of God’s plan and how important marriage is to it. In our day and age this topic is most important to protect and encourage. We as children of our Heavenly Father can not reach our full potential without marriage. Which is why they state that it is “central to the Creator’s plan”.

When they use the word ordained in the first paragraph it stands out to me that our Father in Heaven has chosen this to be holy or important and sacred. That marriage isn’t something to take lightly. We both married and unmarried a like should treat all marriage with respect because God has set it aside from just another thing people do in their lifetime to something meaningful that should last forever.

As time has progressed the meaning of family and the desire to be committed to a spouse has slipped away from what it once meant. This proclamation tells us that this has not changed for God that He still hold high as a priceless important choice all should prepare for.

As we grow in a wholesome family, wether our own from childhood or the ones we create with our spouse, we begin to understand better the love and care our Heavenly Father has for us. Everyone deserves to feel those feeling of love and commitment that we have for family. They bring a huge irreplaceable feeling of belonging.

Our destiny as children of God is to live with Him again and learn to become like Him. He has created this plan to help us learn what we need to grow and have love has He has.

I leave this message with you with my belief that God is real, He has a plan for us, and If we are faithful to His commandments and seek to always grow closer family is promised to us in this life or the life to come.
